We mistakenly thought I (Betsy) might not be bitten by the nasty noseeums as much this year because we weren't camping in the Keys — WRONG! I had only been at our first campsite for 18 hours when I was basically covered with noseeum bites — legs, ankles, shoulders, neck, arms, etc.My noseeum education is continuing. Once again, I've been researching how to avoid being bitten in the first place and how to manage the terrible itching these bites cause. My new strategy is to at all times wear a bug repellent with at least 25% DEET — this includes, unfortunately, even when in the motor home. We are closing our windows in the motor home in the late afternoon (even though we supposedly have noseeum screens). Finally, I'm using a combination of an oral antihistamine plus a topical steroid.
It appears that some people are just unlucky — they get bit more often and have a bigger allergic reaction to the bites. Yeah — I'm one of those people.
On the bright side, we are having wonderful weather. The beach on the Atlantic side is spectacular — with the wind yesterday afternoon, it is easy to see why this is a popular place for surfers.
Of course, we hear the weather is going to be amazing in Minneapolis for the next 10 days or so, too. No polar vortexes this year!
