Our First Full Day at Sebastian

This is our spot at Sebastian Inlet — as you can see, what we really like about state park camping is the campsites are not right on top of each other. We got everything set up to stay for 10 days — once we're here, we just use our bikes for transportation.

After breakfast and catching up on the political news this morning, we decided to go and walk on the beach. This beach is on the Atlantic Ocean side of the barrier islands. As we mentioned, this particular stretch of beach is know for it's surfing and fishing.

We saw lots of fishermen surf fishing — as you walk down the beach, you see all kinds rods and reels designed for surf fishing.

We got really engaged in watching a woman (she spoke French) who was from Quebec. She caught what she figured was a very large sting-ray and it was a battle of wills.
She explained to us that the sting-ray is like a suction cup and attaches its self to the ocean floor. She had to keep constant tension on the reel — as soon as the sting-ray let up a little on the tension, she would furiously reel some more line in. We ended up watching her for almost 35 minutes hoping to get a glimpse at what she thought was a "really big ray." Unfortunately, as the ray got closer, it got the best of her and the line finally broke.

The beaches weren't too crowded — we're wondering what things will be like next week as lots of the colleges have spring break.

After lunch back at the motor home, we tested out Greg's brand new bike trailer he built this winter. This is an "upgraded version" of his original bike trailer that Andrew is now using. It worked just great!

Greg at the beach — a happy camper!
We had a great first full day at this beautiful park.
